Nertz scoreboard

Add everyone playing, then score each round. Enter the cards left in a player's Nertz pile plus either the cards they got to the middle or the cards still in front of them, and the other number fills itself in. Turn on the handicap and the board tells each player how many cards to deal next round. Everything stays on your device: this page can't make network requests.

How a round is scored

Standard Nertz: you get one point for every card you played to the middle, and you lose two points for every card still in your Nertz pile when someone goes out. So a player who put 20 cards in the middle with 5 left in their pile scores 20 − 10 = 10. Both numbers are editable under house rules, and the bonus for calling Nertz is off by default because tables disagree on it: 0, 5, 10 and 25 are all played.

You rarely want to count the middle by hand, so the tool works backwards. Every player starts with 52 cards, and at the end of a round each card is in exactly one of three places: the Nertz pile, the middle, or still in front of them. Enter any two and the third is arithmetic. The greyed-out dashed box is the one being calculated. Enter all three and disagree with the deck, and you get a quiet warning rather than a blocked round, because miscounts happen and a frozen scoreboard is worse than a slightly wrong one.

What the handicap does

On by default, one tap to switch off. A player's pile grows as their score does:pile = base + trunc(total ÷ every) × cards. With the defaults, that is one extra card per 20 points, so a player on 60 deals 13 while a player on 0 deals 10. Scores below zero shrink the pile the same way, and it never drops below 1. It is a house rule, not part of standard Nertz, and every number in it is yours to change.

Does any of this leave my device?

No. This page is locked down with a connect-src 'none' policy: the browser physically blocks every network request. Names, scores and house rules are saved only in your browser's local storage, so the game is still here if you close the tab mid-round. “Clear scoreboard” wipes it.
