Pick where you are leaving from and where you are going. This finds the next Amtrak train that Amtrak is actually tracking on that route, and tells you when it is really expected at your station, how late it is, and where it is right now. It rechecks on its own while anything is uncertain. Unofficial, and not affiliated with Amtrak.

Where does this data come from?
Live positions, delays and estimates come from Amtraker, an open Amtrak tracking API. This page asks a small endpoint on kelvinct.com, which asks Amtraker on your behalf, identifies this project the way Amtraker asks clients to, and caches the answer so a hundred people checking at once still only costs one request upstream. Your two station codes are all it sends.
Why does it sometimes say no train is tracked?
Amtraker is a live tracking source, not a timetable. A train usually appears a few hours before it runs. So “no currently tracked train” means Amtrak is not tracking one right now, not that there is no service. For a full schedule, check Amtrak directly. A future version can fold in Amtrak's published GTFS timetable so this page can also show trains that have not entered tracking yet.
Why does it say the ETA is unknown?
Because sometimes it is. Amtrak does not always publish an estimate for every stop on every train, and when it does not, this page says so instead of quietly showing you the scheduled time and calling it on time. You still get the state, the last known position, the speed and whatever status message Amtrak has attached.
How often does it check?
It reschedules itself rather than firing on a fixed clock. A train more than three hours out is checked every five minutes, one to three hours out every two minutes, and anything within the hour, delayed, disrupted, missing an ETA, sitting at your platform, or running on stale data every minute. It never starts a check while the previous one is still running, and it pauses in a background tab, then refreshes the moment you come back. Polling this page does not make Amtrak update any faster; it only shows you what Amtrak has already published.
